Music Reviews #2

Featured Artist: Jose Gonzales

Here is some soft guitar music for my sisters. I know they have been listening to the likes of John Mayer and Jack Johnson, and I decided that I should give them a healthy alternative to their pot-smoking artists. "Jose Gonzales" sounds like a familiar family friend.
This song, "Heartbeats", is a cover of another band that I like, The Knife. You're still not ready for them, but maybe in the future.

Also, if any of you are buying music I should recommend that you to buy it at
Amazonmp3.com, not iTunes. That way you'll get it in unprotected mP3 format which makes it easier for you to use and share. The prices are just as good or better usually.

The Kind of Stuff my Sisters Enjoy: Milli Vanilli

Their fall from grace in the early 90s was one of the tragedies of the decade. But has anyone else ever made lip-syncing look so good? I don't think so. Luckily my sisters felt the same way.
I thought that their outfits looked familiar and I realized that they look a lot like that picture of Dad when he was little wearing a blazer with shorts. That's where the comparison ends, though.

My Mom's Artist (that I secretly enjoy): ABBA

OK, there's no getting around ABBA if you're going to be talking about my mom and music. In truth, ABBA deserves an entire post, if not their own blog. But for now we'll stick to the confines of this modest post. There is no other band that my mother has listened to more, and for good reason. ABBA redefined Swedish rock music, set standards for intermarriage within a music group, and changed the lives of kids from rural America. Even today their music videos make for some of the strongest arguments against globalization.
In the 70s Swedes were doing big things with cameras. There are probably other songs that I like better, but I like this video and think that it gets really good towards the end (the lookbacks). Bjorn is my favorite, but we'll get to him later.
Mom left a comment earlier about being careful about what you listen to because you never know what the kids will pick up...

...Mom?

Other pictures

Tara and I walked on this road for miles looking for a hot spring. We eventually gave up and turned around.

It was scenic, though.

Tara enjoys cold weather.

This is the building for BYU athletes. Rumor has it this is where Dad's next stop is, doing voluntary custodial work.

This is further evidence of my earlier post on the Utah/Red Sox Connection. I would never expect to see this on any other plate this side of the Mississippi.

I hope that all my sisters have invested in these license plate frames.

SNOW: the comeback

This is the view from Cameron's (my roommate) cabin in Park City.

Other kids that were there.

The hill is much higher than it looks. No one ever climbs all the way up, that would be suicide.

I coaxed Tara to go off this jump. I had gone earlier with a violent crash but we didn't get it on video. She's so brave.

In this one Tara and I are racing. I was winning but feel off with a thump (you can hear me go "ughff") and to show her angst she ran me over.

7 of us tried to make a run together.

Music Reviews

After receiving some critical acclaim for "The News from Here", we continue to move in exciting new directions and pledge a higher quality of material to our fans. As the continuation of the "I'm more cultured than my sisters" series, this post will feature some reviewed music. It will be divided into 3 sections:
  1. Featured Song/Artist
  2. The Kind of Stuff my Sisters Enjoy
  3. My Mom's Song/Artist (that I secretly enjoy)
Disclaimer to Parents: Mom and Dad if you watch these you will compromise the integrity of your mission and I'll be forced to report your infractions to President Pieper and/or President Uchtdorf. --See "White Bible" pg. 31 paragraph 2

Featured Artist: Air

Air is a band of two French guys, who I don't think are gay. If you have this band on your iPod you'll the envy of every woman at Enrichment. I'd never seen this music video before so I don't look into it too much. Although it can be noted that the video has 2 ties from our family's past: Ping-Pong and Pong (from Ricky's Atari). The synergy of this post is amazing...

The Kind of Stuff my Sisters Enjoy: Paula Abdul

This video reminds me of when I first saw it. 1990-Vacaville, CA-The Clark's home. I think we were going to Disneyland, which would make it the last time our family went on a trip. I remember that all the girls loved the video and Rolene told me it was cool. Our friendship was short-lived asRolene and I got into a fight over who got to sleep in the hideaway bed and later that night I threw up in the bathroom. Needless to say, I wasn't allowed back there for 16 years.
This song reminds me of Lindsay, mostly because of how Paula dresses (besides the low cut dress of course). She is like a Jewish Lindsay. Also the ponytail on the top of the head was something Lindsay used to do (like when Paula is dancing on the trash cans). That is the Lindsay Brett fell in love with.

My Mom's Artist (that I secretly enjoy): Linda Ronstadt
I discovered that this was my favorite Linda Ronstadt song recently when I was shopping at Smith's and realized that I knew every word. The intro to this video moves me, I watched the first 17 seconds several times over. I get lost in her piercing stare at the camera --and I see her portrait up with all the aunts and uncles at Grandma's house (like the Will Ferrell one at the bottom of the page). I feel that she really likes mashed potatoes and steak.

Well that's the first installment of the music reviews, now I have to get back to reading in my sociology book.
